President Message

From the President Roshan Wignarajah

As a fellow Michaelite, Colleague, Friend and one amongst, the known faces and souls.

I am elated to greet you all with a வணக்கம் on this Silver Jubilee celebration of the Alumni Association of St.Michael’s College, a renowned and prestigious institution second to none.

This Celebration signifies the expression of appreciation; all of us show for our College for imparting us the knowledge and skills that had made us into who we are today. It is a celebration of joy of alumni and friends, whose numerous achievements and goodwill have elevated the reputation of this distinct educational institute.

For over 141 years, St. Michael’s had been enriching the community and lives of everyone in Batticaloa, with an excellent education, moral aptitude, strong leadership, and the promotion of community values. For over 25years, we the North American Association member’s, exuberant dedication had been providing St. Michael’s College with moral and financial support that they needed to perform at their peak.

The Alumni Association has successfully conducted numerous fundraisers and events to financially aid and give their undying support to St. Michael’s College in the hopes of seeing our school strive for greatness.

Students will come and go, so many of us present here, and who will read this in the future, should realize a simple fact, that many of us had walked through the halls of our Alma Mater, but the school built by the Jesuit priests from France with their sweat and blood will survive and stand tall as an immortal.

Set aside the egos and let all the alumni work towards one goal of elevating our school.

Let all of us ask ourselves a question, “What we have done for the school?” instead of “what has the school done for us?”. Together, we can influence St. Michael’s College by building a legacy that will maintain the name of our beloved college, strengthen its reputation, and always be the “College Second to None”.

“எனது பாடசாலைக்கு என் முதல் மரியாதை!”

Father Eugene John Hebert S.J

The game of basketball became an ‘ET’ phenomenon straight from the outer space, under the watchful narrow eyes, covered by thinly rimmed glasses on the frame of a slightly hunched, yet tall Fr.Hebert.

A College Second to None

1912 was the big year for St. Michael’s College, a year in which the Catholic Diocese began to see its hopes and dreams realized after nearly Fifteen years of frustrating struggle and sacrifice.

Glimpse into the history

A glimpse into the history of St. Michaels College always inspires me. I am more convinced, when I delve into, that the story of St. Michael’s College is intertwined with the modern history of Batticaloa.
