Australian OBA President in Canada
Dr. Sivaseelan, the president of the Old Boys Association of St. Michael's College - Australian Branch, is in Canada on a short visit. Under the leadership of Dr. Sivaseelan, the Australian Branch has undertaken significant projects for college development.
The president made it a priority to meet with the North American branch to show his solidarity with his fellow Michaelites across the Pacific. The entire committee, and non-committee, members were eagerly present at a venue in the east end of Scarborough to meet and hear from Dr. Sivaseelan.
During the meeting, which lasted almost two hours, the Dr. Sivaseelan briefed us all about their current efforts and their goals for the near future. According to the president, the Australian branch has begun installing a new chemistry laboratory with state-of-the-art equipment. “This lab would be an unparalleled facility for the academic enhancement for the students”, notes Dr. Sivaseelan.
The president of the North American branch, Mr. Tommy Ganeshamoorthy, and the Assistant Secretary, Mr. Stanley Chellapillai, briefed the Australian president about the current projects undertaken by our association. It gave us all a moral boost when Dr. Sivaseelan humbly congratulated the North American branch for its many years of dedicated support for the Alma Mater. “Your organization has been impressive in its efforts for school development and I’ve known about it well before I became the president,” noted Dr. Sivaseelan.

As an outcome of this meeting, both the North American branch and the Australian Branch have agreed to work in a more collaborative manner, in order to improve the efficiency of the Alumni body. At the centre of this collaborative effort lies the Parent Body in Batticaloa, which will properly execute and monitor all the projects. It is to be noted that the North American branch has already made agreement with the Parent Body and projects are well underway with the support of the Parent Body.
It was indeed a great pleasure for us all to meet Dr. Sivaseelan, who is such a modest and friendly individual. North American branch looks forward to working with the Australian branch.
